1- JD got his mission call. The night we opened the call we watched my cousin Shane's football game at West Side. He is REALLY good! We had fun visiting and watching Shane be a true leader of the Husky Football Team. The outcome of the game wasn't great. Sorry West Siders, I was routing for my cousin. After the game, we found my cousin and although he didn't have the outcome he wanted he was so gracious and kind to everyone that was there to see him play. I hope my kids will never be hot headed jocks that can't take a loss. I hope they are like Shane and are gracious and kind and good leaders. I'm glad they have his example.
2- So back to the mission call, we had a million people there to see him open it. Some of my mom's sisters and cousins were there and some of the Mumford Family was there. We Facetimed my Aunt Kristi and Aunt Kathy. Everyone was anticipating the news of where JD would be headed to serve the Lord for the next 2 years. Before JD opened the call he told us he was trying to think of something he could say all day to all of us there. He then went on to tell us that he had been reading President Monson's Biography. He told us a story of President Monson talking to another about the effect others have on him. He said that every time he meets someone new they affect his life and they are with him from then on. He said that where he goes, they go and where he serves others serve. JD then thanked everyone for how much they have done and what they have been to him and then he said, "So where I serve, you serve." We were all tearing up and it was a very tender, beautiful moment. (Those moments are what life is about, it is amazing to see an 18 year old boy have such a strong conviction for others and for something greater than him). He then opened his call to Seattle, Washington. He reports to the MTC January 30th. I'm so glad my kids have so many good examples (including JD's now) of mission service and strong testimonies.
