After a fall semester of dating a little and a lot of homework, I decided I was going to go back to school and be really social in my ward, get to know a few of the boys and make some girlfriends. As I ventured back to Old Farm I started of the year with a bang. I got asked on a few dates with different guys. One consisted of a movie and cards, another was a dinner and another rock climbing. It was really fun. Then came the IWA dance. I really wasn't into IWA things at all but my roommates proceeded to consistently tell me to ask someone. I decided it would be a fun "social" thing to do. I went through our ward directory, I laugh every time I think about that morning I did that. It was pretty much really shallow but hey, I had to ask someone who fit my criteria. My criteria consisted of: good looking, fun to be with and not cocky! I thought it was a pretty good list. I narrowed it down to about eight boys in my ward and yes Clark Evans ended up being in my top five along with his roommate, a red head, a good friend or "pre-mi" (as my roommate would say), and my FHE partner.
I ended up choosing Clark and came to find out that he had already been asked. So then everyone told me I should ask his roommate but I thought "If I want a chance to date Clark, why would I ask his roommate?" So I asked my FHE partner. He was an awesome date and we had a lot of fun. Then, Clark found out I was going to ask him, from me (it was a plan). And he set up a date for the evening after the dance. (I was a little difficult to make plans with also, because I was scared to go with him, don't know why, maybe I knew I'd fall a little too fast!) And I DID!
The First Date
That next night (February 6) he took me to Cafe Sabor. We had smoothies there and our dinner and then we headed to the USU basketball game, which we won! After I didn't want the date to end and he asked me if I wanted to watch a movie at his place. We watched Hoosiers and cuddled a little. The funny thing is that we both agreed at the end of the night it was the "slowest, most boring" sports show we had ever seen and next time we watched a movie it would be Remember the Titans. Then, he walked me home, across the parking lot. It was a great first date.
The Other Dates
The following week after our first date he asked me to go dancing at the Fun Park and to Jamba Juice. I think he stayed at my apartment chatting after family night and all these dates we had were the week before Valentine's Day. Guess what was happening that week on campus... an iPod kiss-off.
The iPod Kiss-Off
So that week in English, a boy in my class was filling out a form for it and said I should too. The winners got two free iPod touches. I sent a text to Clark and asked if I should sign up for it to which he replied, "Done!" I ended up signing up the Thursday before it because I was chicken and nervous to do it. Then I found out they only drew ten names, so automatically I thought I would just sign up and not get drawn. Well the next day (February 12) Clark calls me after I'm out of my classes for that morning and tells me our names have been drawn for the kiss-off. I couldn't believe it. I was scared too because I had never even kissed the big guy.
So I went to the TSC excited and nervous. We ended up having to hold a display iPod inbetween our lips. If it dropped we were disqualified.
1st hour- we could touch and the first time Clark met my dad was then, he was taking pictures of us on his phone and sending them to my mom
Next 30 minutes- we couldn't touch and this was way hard because Clark is a foot taller then me, our muscles were so sore after
3rd 30 minutes- we had to put one hand on our head and it could slip past our ear, we still couldn't touch and couples were dropping like flies
4th 16 minutes- we had to raise the same hand above are head and it sounds easy but it was hard to hold it up that long, it was between us and a newlywed couple and they ended up dropping it and we won!
Our First Kiss
After we won I kissed him right on the lips, yep our first kiss in front of everyone watching. It was the best first kiss and how couldn't we after our lips being 2 centimeters apart for over two hours.
My Valentine
That night after the kiss-off he came to my house and gave me a rose and asked me to be his Valentine. We went to Olive Garden for dinner. Then we went to the infamous bench that looks over the island. I thought he would kiss me again there but he didn't. Then we watched 7 pounds at my apartment. It was so much fun. That night I think we decided we were a couple.
The Aftermath
After deciding we were a couple we went on a lot more dates and saw each other every day. One of our dates was skiing. We went to Snowbird and stayed at his house for the weekend. It was so much fun and he told me he loved me that weekend. Then, a few months later after some great dates and fun times together things got pretty serious.
The Engagement
He asked me to marry him on May . We talked by the temple in our church clothes just about life and everything. He acted so suave, I had no clue what was going to happen. Then he told me we were going to Olive Garden and we started driving but were going the wrong way. I asked where we were going and he said, "he had to kiss me up at that bench" I had teased him for not kissing me there. It was a Clark kind of thing to do so I didn't think anything of it. Then we got out of the car and he played a playlist on my iPod, we danced by the bench then as the soon as the song "If I Ain't Got You" ended, he knelt down and asked me with the prettiest ring. I said yes and we kissed and danced and cars honked as they passed. I loved it. Then we ate at Olive Garden and told everyone we knew.
The Wedding
We planned the wedding all summer. I worked weeding and Clark worked for a bug research lady on campus and then on August 21 my 19th birthday. We had a two fabulous receptions one the day before the wedding and one the weekend after. We got married in the Logan Temple. It was a beautiful day and everyone we loved came. We had a dinner at the Skyroom on USU's campus, Logan (Clark's friend) drove us there in his limo. We had a fun program followed by dancing and great food. Clark surprised me with a birthday cake too! I didn't get a wedding cake and I loved it. Then we headed to Park City for our fun week get away.
The Present
We are in school now and almost done with the semester. It is so nice to be almost halfway done with our Junior year. I'm loving my Speech Pathology program and Clark loves his Public Health program also. Clark puts up with me being cranky and I put up with his tallness and we get along just fine. We are in love and happy and because of an IWA dance, iPod kiss-off and the Temple, we get each other forever and our happily ever after.
