List of Happy...

This post will be in list form again. Geez, I love lists. Today I was feeling a little blue and I remembered an impression I got from listening to President Monson's talk on Sunday, "Write your blessings down." I have many things that make me happy but I'll list a few that have made me the happiest lately.

1. On my birthday, Clark bought me a ukulele. I named it Izzy after Iz (the BIG Hawaiian that sings Over the Rainbow so beautifully). I don't remember ever feeling so happy over a gift in my life. Before receiving my ukulele, Clark gave me a guitar/ukulele book of Iz' songs. I immediately started crying, because I knew what I was going to get next. I don't think anyone watching me understood how badly I wanted a uke. I wasn't crying about the uke though. I was crying about how Clark had planned this months before and he knew my exact thought of what I wanted. He is perfect. Not just for giving me the perfect gift but for knowing me and knowing what makes me happy. He makes me happy. I'm so glad I have him.

2. This past Sunday I got to go home and watch General Conference with my family. General Conference is a biannual meeting that the LDS church has every year, where we receive counsel from leaders of our church. I love the spirit of the meeting while I listen to the speakers. But there was something I love more than that. I love being at my parents in the fall. My dad and mom's house is so inviting and warm. I cuddled with my little brother while we watched and I took a nap by him between sessions. There are 3 things I love about this scenario I just decribed: I love naps, I love my brother and I love my house. I was in absolute heaven. I imagine that is what heaven is going to be like. Me with my family and my husband, taking naps, watching conference, joking, loving, laughing and eating cheese and crackers.

3. My sister Addie's drawings. WOW is she amazing. She is one of the most talented people I know. I wish I could figure out how to post pictures on this dang blog (I know I'm could, I'm just too impatient to do it) so I could show you just how amazing she is. I also love watching her play volleyball and I was able to do this on Saturday. It was so much fun!

4. My brother's desire to serve a mission. This makes me happy. He is so smart, funny and kind but more importantly he has strong convictions, at such a young age, for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I hope that my kids look at his example, among many other examples in my family, of devotion to their Savior.

5. Talks with my mom and dad. This weekend I was able to go to my cousin's State Distinguished Young Woman Competition. She did awesome by the way (won a talent, self expression and got in the Top 10). I was also able to drive up with my dad and have a nice chat with him and gab with my mama while I was up there too. I love their advice and how they make me feel safe and happy. They will always be people I look up to and want to chat with no matter how old and wise I think I am.

6. Cupcakes from Temptation Cupcakes. I had a vanilla one the other day. DIVINE!

7. Family Home Evening. Last night it consisted of: reading scriptures, watching Remember the Titans and falling asleep to it. I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT.

8. Fall in Logan. It is beautiful here. I love where I live.

9. Anticipation of Fall Break. USU has a day off next week. Yep... one day, and you better believe I'm going to live it up. Provo and NSL here I come!

10. This Quote: "It is not happy people who are thankful. It is thankful people who are happy." On that note, I'm very thankful for this life I'm living (most days). I hope I never take it for granted.

"May the odds be ever in your favor." Night.

Oh Hello Stranger...

Blog you are a stranger to me. I decided to sit and write on you for the minutes I have amidst studying, clinic, class, church and Clark. I want you to know I love my life and I'm very thankful for it. I have had so many growing experiences this summer that have helped me define who I am. So now because I like lists and we haven't caught up for a while... I'm going to list a few things that I have learned the past few months of Summer. I learned...

1- I have a love/hate relationship with being alone.
I love to have me time but I hate when Clark is gone. Clark was gone most the summer. I learned that I can sleep alone in an apartment with the windows open. I learned I can be brave and figure things out by myself. I learned I can fix things. I learned I am a lot stronger than I thought I was. However, I also learned that I could never ever live without Clark. Sounds mushy? Deal. With. It. I love him and that's all there is to it. I learned I have grown more fond of him since the day we got married and continue to do so.

2- Utah IS NOT in a Bubble.
I have heard from many people who come from outside of Utah that Utah is in a bubble. This means we blindly believe in the LDS religion. We choose the republican party because our parents do. We don't care about other religions etc. etc. Well guess what... Utah IS NOT in a bubble. I'm not from Utah. I'm LDS. I'm not a democrat or a republican. I am aware of the world but choose not to be bogged down by it. I have a testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that I found on my own with help from my parents. I love my religion and I respect others who aren't of my faith. I, however, will always stand up for my religion when it is misinterpreted.  I will always defend it. I will always try to help others come to know it. It's who I am and I am not in a bubble.

3- Graduate School is Hard.
Enough said. I admire anyone who gets through it and maintains a positive attitude and succeeds. I'm working at the positive attitude currently. I do love what I am doing though so that makes it all worth it.

4- This Quote.
"Don't let Anyone ever Dull your Sparkle." I won't thank you very much.

And on that note... Good night. "May the odds be ever in your favor."

Besides a Degree, I've Learned...

I have been in school for 15 years of my 20 year life excluding summers. That is 75 % of my life. That is a long time and yet I'm going to go for 2 more years! Yes, I'm crazy. The other day I wondered why school has to be such a big part of our lives and then it hit me. Besides reading, writing and arithmetic, I have learned so many life lessons that I never would have had I not been in school.

Here are a few of them...

1- People will always perceive you how they want to, until you show them differently.

In other words, no one can really know who you are or what you are all about until you show them. People can make judgements of you easily but it is up to you to prove that you are who you want them to see you as. I'm not saying care what other people think. I'm saying care what you want to be perceived as. You can take on the identity of anyone you want to be but stay true to your standards and values and just be YOU! If you prove to people who you are and they still don't like you. Forget about them. Other people will accept you and you will suddenly find yourself surrounded by people a lot like you who love you for you.

2- The most pleasant surprises come at the most unexpected times.

Clark Saville is the perfect example of this. I had just come back from Christmas break my freshman year, a single woman ready to date a million college guys. I found lots of guys to date when I came back and then this tall, handsome stranger took some interest in me. He was the best surprise at the MOST UNEXPECTED time. I will always love him for how he stepped into my life when I needed him most.

3- Trials really do make you stronger.

I took Andy Anderson's Anatomy class my freshman year Spring semester and it was the most difficult class I've ever, ever had to experience.Andy Anderson is notorious for his tricky questions and thorough testing. He is a great lecture to listen to but he toasts you with his tests. That same semester my pleasant surprise arrived at my doorstep, my roommates decided they didn't really like me too much and my grandpa passed away. I still look back at that semester and know even though it was awful at the time, there was so much beauty in it. I found out how strong I was. I found the love of my life and I gained the strongest testimony I've ever had that families can be together forever. I don't know how I got through it. I would never choose to relive it, but I'm glad I did live it. Oh and I got a C+ in Anatomy if you were wondering. (I'm still trying not to care about that detail.)

4- Take advantage of family time.

Lots of college students, even those that live close to home, choose to never go home. They say, "My life is way too busy. I have to study and work and I need to socialize."  Those things are all true that they say but they say these things and then they NEVER see their family. I took advantage of going to many ball games, dance recitals, plays, Jr Misses, dress shopping, award ceremonies, Christmas programs etc. I will never ever regret that point I missed on a test because I didn't get every single minute of studying I needed to in, or that money I didn't get from the work shift I gave away, or that sleep I desperately needed the night before the big test. I cherished the time I got to be with my family. I was able to have the college experience and see members in my family succeed and accomplish great things. If I had to do that part again, I would do it exactly the same.

5- The Savior is my biggest advocate, my best friend and my constant companion.

I know that through my schooling I could not have done it if I didn't have the knowledge that my Savior lives and loves me. I know that He was watching over me through all the experiences I had. He wept with me when I couldn't handle everything. He gave me peace when I asked for it and when I didn't ask for it. He forgave me when I made mistakes. He rejoiced with me when I succeeded. He gave me family members and a spouse who love me and take care of me. He gave me health and confidence to perform to the best of my abilities. He listened to and answered many prayers. He strengthened me when I was weak. He helped me move mountains I thought were immovable. He helped me realize my potential and continually helps me realize how to be better and do better. I accredit Him for my accomplishments. I believe He can be all He was for me to anyone else who seeks Him.

These are 5 of the most important life lessons that I learned and I'm so grateful I did.
